How to Manage Medal Storage

1

Open storage settings

In the Medal app, go to Settings and find the Storage section. This is where you control how much disk space clips can use and where they get saved.

2

Set a storage limit

Choose a cap for how much space Medal can use for local clips. When you hit the limit, Medal automatically removes the oldest clips so your drive never fills up unexpectedly.

3

Pick a save location

Point Medal at any drive or folder you like - move clips off your main SSD onto a larger drive if space is tight.

4

Post clips to free cloud

Post the clips you want to keep and Medal hosts them free in the cloud with an instant link. You can safely clear the local copy and the clip still lives online.

Storage Controls in Medal

Medal is built so clipping never costs you a full drive. Here is everything you can control.

Set a local storage cap

Limit

Tell Medal exactly how much disk space it can use. Once the cap is reached, the oldest unsaved clips are cleared automatically so recording never eats your whole drive.

Choose where clips save

Location

Change the save folder to any drive. By default clips land in your Videos folder, but you can move them to a secondary or external drive in one click.

Free cloud hosting for posts

Cloud

Every clip you post is hosted free in the cloud with no file-size limits. That means you can keep the clips that matter online and clear local copies to reclaim space.

Auto-cleanup of old clips

Cleanup

Medal manages the local buffer for you - old clips you never saved roll off automatically, so you are not stuck manually deleting footage to free up room.

Shrink Clip File Sizes Per Game

The biggest lever on storage is clip quality. In custom game clip settings you can set resolution, frame rate, and bitrate per game - keep a competitive shooter crisp while dialing a casual game down to save space. Smaller clips mean more highlights for the same disk.

Local Clips vs Free Cloud Hosting

Medal records to your local drive first so capture is instant and there is no FPS drop while you play. The clips that matter, you post - and Medal hosts them free in the cloud with an instant share link and no file-size limit.

That split is what keeps storage simple: keep a small local buffer for recent gameplay, push your highlights to the cloud, and let the rest roll off automatically. You get a full clip library without a full hard drive.
